The Role of Citizen Advocacy in Clean Water

Many people like to voice their concerns over the kitchen table. But, what does that really do for clean water? If we really want to make an impact, our concerns must be voiced at the right place, and with the right individuals listening.

Last week, there was a Sussex County Council hearing where Mountaire was applying for conditional use for application of sludge and wastewater on 3 parcels, one of which was zoned general residential. Many citizens came out to oppose this application.

The citizens’ solid opposition has resulted in Mountaire amending the permit application to exclude the sludge from application.

I recommend reading the two articles below from some local newspapers as well as checking out the link to the Sussex County Council hearing. This proves that citizen advocacy makes an impact!
