Citizens Have Been Expressing Concerns

Hey Sussex County!

Welcome to our Clean Water Wednesday Blog!

If you haven’t been following what’s been going on with The Old Mill Landing Development Project, citizens have been expressing concerns about the project including flooding, environmental impacts, the history of the site, and potential traffic increases.

There have been many articles with overflow at the public meetings where so many citizens were in attendance that they could not all fit in the room. Here are some articles if you would like to catch yourself up:

Old Mill Landing Gets Pushback at Planning Meeting

Sussex County Planning & Zoning approved the project with conditions. The citizens were grateful and appreciative to Planning & Zoning for the conditions which were approved that address some of their concerns. However, the citizens have recently learned “that the developer had submitted to Planning & Zoning a request for reconsideration” according to Jeanette Ahkter.

Please contact Sussex County Planning & Zoning and let them know you appreciate the ORIGINAL conditions put on the Old Mill Landing Project. Please keep the original conditions approved. Contact them on the link on this page please.  https://sussexcountyde.gov/planning-zoning-commission

Thanks SHEN family!

P.S. Don’t miss our March SHEN Meeting!

SHEN meetings allow you to make your voice heard about issues in your community, and learn from workshops teaching concepts like effective environmental advocacy.

Our next SHEN meeting will be a workshop by Professor Ken Kristl of Widener Law Clinic. For those who ordered SHEN shirts, they will be available there. The Austin-Moyer Citizen's Advocacy Program Workshop is a tribute to the selfless work of John Austin and Bill Moyer. Most of you knew John extremely well. John worked tirelessly to fight for vulnerable communities and the environment. John passed away on July 15th, 2018. He was a hero to uplift science and communities that were being overburdened with pollution. We are asking everyone to attend to honor John and his work. Inland Bays Foundation (IBF) is hosting the workshop and SHEN is co-sponsoring as we believe citizen advocacy and participation is so important and honors John's work as well as Bill Moyer. I met Bill Moyer just before he passed away but he also had worked selflessly fighting for communities.

Please Join us on March 28th at the Indian River Senior Center (214 Irons Ave, Millsboro, DE 19966) at 9:45 AM.

RSVP at this link by March 13th to receive a print copy of the 200 page Citizen's Guide to Environmental Advocacy.
